Building your own Prefab
Whether you’re working with a single body character or one that has distinct head and body parts, the modular customization system in Atavism allows you to save and manage gear items. Here’s a step-by-step guide to help you navigate this process.
Step 1: General Tab
- Configure Gender: Select the appropriate gender for your character.
- Assign Slots: Assign the necessary slots for each body part. These act as pointers towards the location that will be switched out.
- Hair and Beard Models: If these are inside the prefab you’re working with, select the toggles; otherwise, leave them alone.
Step 2: Parts Tab
- Configure Body Parts: Set up the parts tab for various locations (hands, feet, torso, head, etc.) that will be swapped out.
Step 3: Default Parts Tab (Important)
- Understanding the Tab: This tab is crucial, and its proper configuration is required for the system to work.
- Create Required Locations: If your model lacks required locations for saving and swapping, create them and place them into the default slot name locations corresponding to the part you want to swap.
- Follow Examples: Look at provided examples to understand how to create these items.
Step 4: Materials Tab
- Body Material: Drop the body material into the material locations. If multiple body materials exist for the character, drag additional items into the “skin materials to sync” option.
- Other Materials: Repeat this process for head, eyes, hair, and mouth materials.
- Optional Material Swapping: If you want to swap between skin materials, drop the additional materials into the optional materials selection. Note that head and skin materials are linked lists.
Step 5: Color Options
- Colors Options Tab: Select your preferences or leave the defaults.
- Default Colors Tab: Choose your options or leave the defaults.
- Color Selections Tab: Select your preferences or leave the defaults.
Conclusion
Customizing a character using the modular system in Atavism is a detailed but manageable process. By following these steps, you can set up the body parts, materials, and color options to create a character that fits your vision. Always refer to the examples provided within the system for specific guidance, and remember that the Default Parts Tab is vital for the proper functioning of the entire system. Happy customizing!
